In math class this year we used a program called connected math 2 as our textbook. Every time we finished all of the work in each or our connected math books, we got a new one to finish and go on to the next one and the next one etc. The units we covered already were, Prime Tine, Bits and Pieces 1, Bits and Pieces 2, Shapes and Designs, Covering and surrounding, and How Likely Is It. Each unit we finish the closer we are to meeting our mathematical goals.
My favorite unit was shapes and designs because I am very interested in learning all different kinds of shapes and drawing them. I also like to see how many lines of symmetry any given shape has. I really enjoyed leaning how to find the area and perimeter of a shape that you thought had too many sides to find it.
We write our class and homework on grid paper provided by our math teacher Mrs. Wester. We use this to understand the concept of the event and to understand the algorithms to find a formula of some kind. We use the grid paper to enhance our abilities of making conclusions.
Throughout the units we have a different kind of homework called ACE. ACE stands for Applications, Connections, and Extensions. There are three parts of our homework in the book, and each of them stands for one letter of the ACE. All of the different parts relate to Applications, Connections, or Extensions.
In every book there is a beginning showing what skill it will master you in. In how likely is it, the beginning says “You are on a game show. The host is holding a bucket with red, yellow, and blue blocks. Guess a color and then choose a block from the bucket. A player who correctly predicts the color of the block wins $500. After each selection, the block is returned to the bucket. What are the chances of you winning the game?” This tells you something they are going to ask you on one of the chapters throughout the book.
In conclusion math is very important. It teaches lots of things you would need to know when you grow up. It is very helpful when you go to the store or even to get a job. Math is what you need to know and connected math 2 is the book that teaches you that. Math is good!
